What makes the First Amendment valuable?

The most important aspect about the First Amendment, in my opinion, is the freedom to monitor the government. Without the media’s ability to monitor our government we would live in a completely different and shut-off world. The government would get away with much more than they do now. Additionally, we would not be able to discuss what is happening and voice our opinions freely. With the First Amendment there are many ways to speak your mind, such as freedom of press, assembly, and  freedom to protest against the government. Having the ability to do all of these things as citizens allows us to truly live as we want.
