The First Amendment: Letting Us Say What We Want

The first amendment is the single most important right afforded to Americans in the Constitution. This Amendment protects individuals and allows us to speak freely on subjects that may be controversial and offensive. If freedom of speech and expression was not a right for Americans, the state and other powers would have ability to limit freedom of speech that may not fit the narrative that is being portrayed.  Citizens protesting injustice, journalists ability to report hard hitting stories, and everything in between are all protected and made possible because of the first amendment.
