The First Amendment and Democracy

The First Amendment, in relation to the media, is important for democracy because it protects the human right of expression. This allows a cosmopolitan world to develop. With the development of modern technology, such as social media,  members of the public now have a voice. This has fostered democracy and allowed the public to become watchdogs in our society; this is what I value most about the amendment.

Lucas Winter is multimedia journalism major. He hopes to pursue a career in medicine after graduating this December.
